Some Hope for Political Refugees and the States to Which They Flee.

And the priests and the Levites who were in all Israel presented themselves to him from all places where they lived. For the Levites left their common lands and their holdings and came to Judah and Jerusalem, because Jeroboam and his sons cast them out from serving as priests of the Lord, and he appointed his own priests for the high places and for the goat idols and for the calves that he had made. And those who had set their hearts to seek the Lord God of Israel came after them from all the tribes of Israel to Jerusalem to sacrifice to the Lord, the God of their fathers. They strengthened the kingdom of Judah, and for three years they made Rehoboam the son of Solomon secure, for they walked for three years in the way of David and Solomon. — 2 Chronicles 11:13-17

As you can see from the passage above, righteous souls began to flee the nation of Israel for Judah and Jerusalem, because the leadership from whence they came was wicked and they saw that the nation of Judah was following the ways of God.

I wonder if the nation of Judah began to blame the priests who fled there for refuge for all their problems like we tend to do to Californians. Remember in verse 17 it is said of those fleeing, “they strengthened the kingdom of Judah” and having been somewhat connected in local politics over the last couple years, I can tell you that my Californian friends have held the line here in Idaho, perhaps more than my native Idahoan friends who do not know the sinister nature of our rino leadership.

They lived it in Cali, and can recognize it here, and are fighting hard on the front lines, showing up to speak at legislation and school board meetings while the natives are asleep. Natives often just vote for the R and if the R is wearing a cowboy hat, even better. Then they go back to their sleepy schedule of soccer practices and piano recitals and weekend church volunteering. I doubt Idaho would have remained as free as it is, had it not been for my Californian brethren who transplanted to get away from the scary politics of their home state. If you look at voting records of Idaho politicians, the worst Republican offenders are born and raised right here!

I have also met not a few survivors of actual communism who recognize the signs of it and do not miss a chance to fight for freedom here in Idaho. In the following video you can see one speaking publicly in Idaho about what she sees happening and how it reminds her of socialism and how she sees the red flags.

The current popular book Live Not By Lies by Rod Dreher, talks about survivors of communism recognizing the signs of it coming back today in America. While I am glad the book exists, because it is obviously needed, I am not sure you are the type to recommend it to considering the kind of folks who read my blog. A lot of you know this stuff already and taught it to me. I’ve been blessed somehow to be able to believe my friends who have had to flee blue states and I have taken their views into consideration. Same with medical freedom. I didn’t have to incur an injury in myself or one of my kids in order to believe a mother who had, and I have taken her words into consideration. Lnbl is a great book for sounding the alarm, but when your friends have been sounding the alarm for years, and you actually believed them already, it feels a tad patronizing to suggest such a book to them- which many if not most of you dear readers are.

I’m not saying the book isn’t good, it is, and I didn’t mean to turn this post into a book review, but if you could only read one or the other dear reader, I would have you pick Rules for Reformers. It’s got a lot more practical advice on how to actually CHANGE the world as a Christian, and I have a feeling that most of my readers are ready for a 400 level course rather than a 101 in crushing Satan, and taking dominion like we are commanded to do in Genesis 1:28. But hey, you can always be above average and read both?

Now that our brethren to the north of us in Canada are basically living in a country that just made Christianity illegal (it is now against the law to preach all parts of the Bible there regarding homosexuality), I wonder if we will see more and more Christians fleeing to where they are allowed to worship and preach the gospel freely. I kinda hope so out of self preservation. We could use some reinforcements down here. If you’re reading this from Canada, we are praying for you! As I write this, many pastors all over the place are sharpening each other to preach simultaneously (or in their own time zone) tomorrow morning January 16th, on the very topic that is said to be against the law to preach in Canada now. I could be wrong, but I think the challenge may have been started by Grace Church so catch their sermon tomorrow if you’re homebound and let me know if I’m wrong?

I do know that if you want to leave where you are because of religious persecution, you should not feel guilty! If you have a clear calling from God to stay where you are, please don’t Lord it over others and guilt them for leaving. Who knows if God isn’t calling them to strengthen the church elsewhere?

“Were you called while a slave? Do not worry about it; but if you are able also to become free, rather do that.”

‭‭1 Corinthians‬ ‭7:21‬ ‭NASB1995‬‬

A Christian doesn’t always have to choose the hardest life in order to be more holy. Sometimes life is no bed of roses, and we get to learn how to be content in hardship and lack, and other times, we place a yoke on ourselves and others that is heavier than necessary.

Remember, for many of you, your first ministry is to your family. Some of you would donate thousands of dollars to sex trafficking victims, but then feel guilty for moving to get your own family out of a dangerous neighborhood. If your children are depressed and struggling, without community, unable to attend church, pray and seek godly counsel about whether you should be looking for an opportunity to free yourselves.

Remember my standard yet invaluable disclaimer– I’m neither your pastor, nor the head of your household. I’m just some lady on the internet getting messages daily from friends in Californica and People’s Republic of Canada who are struggling, and these are my thoughts. Search the scriptures and talk to the shepherds in your life if you have any. I pray you have any. If you don’t have any in your area…well that would be another point on the column for moving.

This video by Lauren Chen shows the situation in California well- women being physically attacked for not wanting a bearded man to show his penis in the women’s section of the spa. A man came up and sat at the edge of the hot tub with this woman who had her 6 year old daughter naked in the hot tub.

Some of you may be called to stay where you are and some of you may be called to flee like in the days of Soddom and Gomorrah. Flee and do not look back lest you be like Lot’s wife.

  1. Good column, Nikki. Our church went through the LNBL book recently and I felt the same as you. Who is the author of the other one you recommended? I haven’t read that yet. One of my sons works for a very conservative Pierce County Council member. I think he would like to read your blog.

    1. It’s probably just me but I’m not getting those links to work. I can see that it’s the mark levin book and Solzhenitsyn tho! Thank you for recommendations and I will add them to my very long list! I always seem to get a lot out of Solzhenitsyn quotes.

  2. Nikki I got so much out of this.
Particular how outsiders see “the signs”. Someone once told me that taking in the observations of fresh eyes is vital…..familiarity breeds content and familiarity can breed a false sense of confidence with just accepting things they way are and conforming to those “sleeply schedules”.

I think it takes humility to allow fresh observations of fresh eyes to wake us up to reality

But as you state, alot of people don’t like waking up to the signs

I also loved what you said about each person’s calling, regarding staying or leaving

Thank you for this thought provoking piece Nikki!
